St. Paul is proud to offer one of the best Kindergartens in Grand Rapids MI, and the surrounding area. Our Kindergarten has kids from Forest Hills, Ada, Kentwood, Grand Rapids, Caladonia and East Grand Rapids. We’re excited to expand our Kindergarten offerings to include both half day and all day Kindergarten options!
Our experienced and creative teachers consistently enhance the learning development of our students by adding events and activities that make each grade special and memorable. Here are some of the highlights we offer:
- The Kindergartners learn Bible stories from the Old Testament, New Testament and Acts of the Apostles.
- Kindergartners attend weekly school liturgies.
- The Kindergarteners hold a ‘Kindergarten Candy Cane Sale’ each year as a service project to raise money to help others in need.
- The VoWac Kindergarten program is used to formally introduce the letter/sound relationship and many more pre-reading skills.
- Spanish, Library, Computer Lab, Gym, and Music classes are held weekly.

[su_spoiler title=”Religion”]Our primary goal is to learn that we are members of God’s loving family and are responsible for our own actions. We also learn about our faith and to pray faithfully. The children learn to identify the important symbols associated with the Church and prayer and to use formal and informal prayers to talk to God. We incorporate our growing beliefs into our daily activities though various projects, care and concern for all of God’s creation, and through our words and actions.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Language Arts”]Instruction in all the language arts skills (reading, writing, handwriting, listening, and speaking) are integrated across the curriculum whenever possible.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Reading”]The children are introduced to a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction to promote positive pre-reading skills such as visual and auditory discrimination, comprehension, and reading behaviors and to build a large sight words vocabulary of common words. The VoWac phonics program is used to formally introduce the letter/sound relationship, rhyming, alliteration, and word-building skills.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Writing”]The children learn to use the written words as a means to communicate information, to express their caring and thoughtfulness, and as an outlet for creativity and imagination.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Handwriting”]The children learn and practice correct letter and number formation using a variety of media/writing materials.
Speaking/Listening
The children will learn to verbally transmit a variety of messages that are effectively delivered and understood by the listener. They will learn the social courtesies of listening, understanding, and responding to a variety of oral messages.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Math”]The children will learn to apply and integrate problem solving, estimation, mental math, logic, math communication and technology with math concepts.
Number Sense: The children read, write, and order numbers, learn two-digit place value and the basic concept of fractions.
Number Operations: The children will perform and describe simple addition and subtraction, count forward, and recognize math symbols.
Patterns, Relations, and Functions: The children create and extend patterns, sort and categorize a variety of materials, and skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
Geometry and Measurement: The children identify and use common ordinal numbers and measurement tools (clocks, rulers, thermometers, scales, and liquid measures). They recognize and name two-dimensional shapes, recognize and name coins and currency, and practice telling time to the hour and half-hour.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Social Studies]The focus of kindergarten social studies is on personal identity, family identity, decision making, and how we relate to others in the world. The children learn about themselves and recognize and appreciate how others fit into their world. The children learn to take responsibility for themselves, their belongings, and their behavior.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title=”Science”]
The children will use their sense and problem-solving skills to observe and explore topics relating to the earth science, life sciences, physical sciences, and space. Topics include:
- Land and water forms
- Weather
- Characteristics of plants and animals
- Properties of magnets, matter, light, and motion
The children will learn new vocabulary, engage in experiments using scientific method, and construct maps and models during the course of study.
